What Really Matters?

The oil matters
Imagine baking a cake
And the recipe calls for vegetable oil.
Yet, all you have is olive.
You think, an olive is like a vegetable
So even though the directions
require one thing,
I’m hoping that this substitute will suffice.
Well, the cake comes out of the oven
And it looks delicious.
No burnt edges.
It smells scrumptious.
But when you eat it,
Consuming the contents reveals
The wretched taste.
Looks can be deceptive:
The inward contents are
Much more valuable.
So now, there is a cake on a counter
Getting stale,
But it could have been
Savored and shared.
The oil matters.
God’s anointing matters.
No matter what we look or seem like,
God knows our hearts.
So, search God’s recipe
Keep the required ingredients
So that you may be a delight
To share his light
With others.
This matters.
